We all need energy to do our daily activities, run, walk or even sleep, and we get this from our daily food intake. But, when the balance between the calorie input and the expended energy level breaks - in such a way that the input exceeds the expended calories - it invariably leads to overweight. If this is left unchecked, it could lead to a variety of diseases ranging from cardiovascular complexities and depression to diabetes, osteoarthritis, and sleep apnea, to name a few. And to make matters worse, there are no quick fixes available to this problem. The only way out is to follow a healthy eating plan or a balanced diet that provides just enough calorie for one to survive peacefully.

That brings us to the various dietary options popular amongst the dieticians. At present, there are various plans in vogue, the most sought after ones being the Atkins Diet, Low Carb, Hollywood Diet, Vegetarian, Zone Diet, Gluten Free etc. But, it is advisable only to follow those dietary options that offer a long term plan for they only yield convincing results. Those promising short term results will be mostly bluffing and such diet plans rarely succeed in containing weight. Further, it should be kept in mind that not all the diet plans may work equally well for everybody. It depends a lot on one's taste, physical state, and present health conditions.

That is, the best person to decide one's own dietary plans is the person himself. It would be good to seek the advice of a professional dietician in this regard, but the final call must be made by the person himself for it is him who understands his body and its cravings and ailments better. Let this be followed as a thumb rule!
