Tae Bo
Tae Bo is a total body fitness system created by Billy Blanks, a seven-time world karate champion and former Golden Gloves champ. Blanks originally created the routine while training; he combined dance moves and Tae Kwon Do and unintentionally hit upon the concept for Tae Bo. It is the combination of self-awareness along with the control of martial arts, the focus and strength of boxing, and the grace and rhythm of dance. He believes it helps the mind and spirit to work in harmony with the mechanics of the body.
"Tae" means "leg," for the kicks and lower body part of the workout. "Bo" comes from boxing and the upper body punches that are an integral part of the workout. Billy Blanks believes that all the letters of "Tae Bo" have an important meaning as well and they are significant to the essential demands of "Tae Bo". Tae-Bo combines Tae Kwon Do, boxing and dance into a challenging program set to hip-hop music. It combines the best of different exercise disciplines to provide an overall workout. A typical one-hour class consists of a series of jabs, punches, kicks and steps, choreographed in a series of eight-count combinations. Tae-Bo can be a very satisfying workout because it engages the entire body and is set to upbeat music.
Tae Bo is more than training your body and getting in shape. It trains you to respond mentally and physically with speed and accuracy. It will provide you with confidence, self-awareness, tone and quick reflexes to protect yourself in an adverse situation. As with any fitness program, check with your doctor to make sure you can start an intense workout program. For maximum benefit, like any other cardiovascular program, you should do Tae Bo three times a week.
