Dean Ornish Diet
Dean Ornish is well known for his success in reversing blockages to the heart without surgery or drugs. His diet for the masses is a modification of that regimen. He believes that eating a high-fiber, low-fat vegetarian diet will not only help you stay healthy, but also will help you lose weight. This is a life long change in eating habits and not a short term diet.
The Dean Ornish 'Eat More, Weigh Less' plan believes that dieters should change the type of food they eat, not the amount. The focus is on plant-based diet which is naturally low in fat and hence calories will automatically be low. Dr.Ornish believes that less than 10% of the daily calorie intake should be from fats. You can eat the recommended foods whenever you feel hungry until you are full.
You are allowed to eat as much as you want of fruits, vegetables, lentils, kidney beans, peas, black beans, red Mexican beans, split peas, soybeans, black-eyed peas, garbanzos, navy beans, legumes and whole grains such as corn, rice, oats, wheat, millet, barley and buckwheat. Limited amounts of fats and oils should be used for cooking and at the table. Small amounts of roasted or grilled skinless chicken breast or lean seafood like perch, sole, cod or flounder are permitted in moderation; so also processed foods and nonfat dairy products. Red meat, nuts, avocadoes, and other high-fat fare along with sugar, refined grains, and alcohol should be avoided as much as possible.
