Organic Food
Organic Food is in burgeoning demand all across the globe. May be it is the direct fallout of the newly found health consciousness among the urban mass, or better mass awareness, but the truth is that more and more people are now seeking out organic food exclusively for domestic consumption. In fact, this is a good sign, given the way consumers were addicted to artificially grown, cheap vegetable and fruits few years back. And, then, nobody was really giving a thought about the hazards of artificial fertilization and the extensive use of pesticides. Better sense prevailed at last!
For those who do not know what organic food is, the term stands for those food items that are cultivated without the use of artificial fertilizers of insecticides, and to a large extent, free from all sorts of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). Such food will be free of all forms poisonous agents and chemicals and hence is much safer for consumption than those coming from industrial farming practices.
Organic food is classified into ‘Fresh’ food and ‘Processed’ food. One could find both these types in supermarkets in your city/town or place of residence. But, there are also other spurious foods proclaiming to be organic products now occupying the shelves of supermarkets, generating confusion in the minds of prospective customers. Not to blame the customer’s discerning senses, but it is virtually impossible to make out organic and non-organic food in a single glance, and in most cases, even with a closer scrutiny. The only realistic way out of this dilemma is to verify if the organic food packet carries a ‘certified organic’ seal. As defined by the National Organic Program, a USDA Organic seal identifies products with at least 95% organic ingredients. Further note, there is no second option available to check the genuinity of an organic food packet.
In market lingo, customer is always the king. But to evade being sold a dummy, one must indeed have to act like one! After all, you are paying the money! |
