Pantothenic Acid
Pantothenic acid is known as the anti-stress vitamin B5 and is a co-enzyme of vitamin A. It reduces stress because it distributes energy evenly and regularly to all of the cells in the body. It also has been known to improve acne, reduce wrinkles and help with aging. It forms antibodies for fighting infections and also metabolizes carbohydrates and proteins into glucose.
Pantothenic acid is very important in the synthesis of cholesterol, acetylcholine, fatty acids, and phospholipids, and also ensures that the body growth is normal. Some new researches have revealed the need to have sufficient amounts of Pantothenic acid to help Rheumatoid arthritis, as well as the healing of the skin and reduction of scarring. It can also ward off infections of the ear, nose, and throat.
Pantothenic acid is mainly found in food sources like sesame seeds, liver, kidney, milk, yeast, egg yolk, broccoli, fish, chicken, yoghurt, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, avocado pears, walnuts, peanuts, pecan nuts, eggs, whole grains and dried fruit like apricots or figs. Calf’s liver can also be a great source for Pantothenic acid. It is important to take the correct amounts of Pantothenic acid, otherwise your body will begin to show signs of stress such as headaches, depression, muscle cramps, poor concentration, loss of appetite, fatigue, muscle weakness, and you can even start grinding your teeth at night.
So when you are looking at improving your diet and wondering why you keep getting headaches and feeling lethargic, the answer could be that you need more Pantothenic acid. All that adults need is 5mg per day and this is quite easy to achieve by eating a handful or two of peanuts and an avocado on toast for lunch. |
