Vitamin B
The vitamin B group was once thought to be just one vitamin. Since then researches have shown that they are a group coexisting in the same foods. These vitamins are all water soluble, meaning that you will have to keep topping up your supply. It is very important to make sure that you have all the vitamin B complexes to maintain a healthy metabolism and many of them have other properties like helping to heal skin and tissue, repairing nerves and strengthening muscles.
Vitamin B is made up of eight individual vitamins. The first is vitamin B1 which is also called thiamin, vitamin B2 or riboflavin, B3 or Niacin (also called vitamin P), B5 or Pantothenic acid, B6 or Pyridoxine, B7 or vitamin H (also called biotin), B9 or folic acid – also called vitamin M, and vitamin B12 or cyanocobalamin.
There are also other non essential nutrients that have a similar structure to the B vitamins and have been labeled under the same group. These are Vitamin B4, B7, B7, B8, B10, B11, B13, B14, B15, B16, B17, B18, B19, B20, B21, and B22. Many of these vitamins are found to affect animals and plants. Other uncommon B vitamins are Bt, also known as L-carnitine, which helps in weight management, Bv which is a type of vitamin B6 but not quite the same, and Bw which is a slight variation to biotin.
Other benefits of taking a vitamin B complex supplements is that you can improve your immune system and promote cell growth and division, which is very important in preventing cardio vascular disease and reducing stress and depression in the body. Many people make the mistake of only increasing one of the B vitamins when they are deficient; when in actual fact you need all of them so that they can work together.
Great dietary sources of vitamin B include potatoes, lentils, bananas, chili peppers, turkey, liver, and tuna. Brewer's yeast is also a very rich source of vitamin B, so foods like marmite or the Australian Vegemite are good to include in your diet. Beer also contains plenty of brewer’s yeast but it should not be any kind of filtered beer. |
